Things My Grandma Told Me: Yard Sales

I LOVE yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets. thanks to my mom and grandma. My grandma used to love to get us up super early on the weekends to hit up all of the yard sales in the neighborhood.  She could also haggle prices and get the best deals, like a pro. She knew just what to say to people to get them to lower their prices or even give things away for free! I'm serious. She had a lot of friends that worked at flea markets around town. We went practically every week and had the best time. Her favorite flea market even had a little bar with live music in it that she would take us too. It wasn't such a big deal back then to take your kiddos to the bar with you... We would go listen to music, my sister and I would sometimes dance on the stage when it was dead, and yes, we were allowed to. My grandma and mom would buy us some pumpkin bread and we'd shop around.  Best time ever. To this day, I am obsessed with going to these places. If we drive past

Behind Closed Eyes: Kiss

This is from a few months ago I'm really starting to freak out with these "dreams" I'm having these days. I put it in quotation marks because these are more lucid than ever. I've never been the type to confuse a dream with reality, but these days... Before I mention the dream, let me start by saying, I have always  b elieved in ghosts and other paranormal things. I've seen and heard one too many things in my life to be a skeptic. Anyway, Yesterday my daughter and I were sitting on the living room floor playing, when a spatula in the kitchen fell onto the floor. Now I know that sounds like no big deal. The thing is- I had placed it on a level surface. It really shouldn't have fallen the way it did, but, it did. The baby and I jumped when it happened because it was so out of place. Then I went and cleaned up the mess. Shortly after that we heard some papers being thrown off the counter, but I could not find them. It was hit a loud sound of

Summer Fashion from #pinkbasis

Do you guys remember me talking about Pinkbasis before? I've talked about their beautifully stylish dresses, shoes, accessories, swimwear, and costumes.  Best part about the site is that the prices are unbelievably low.  They also have amazing sales ALL THE TIME. I recently picked out a couple of dresses, as well as a nice little ring.  Check them out below Look at the cute stars on this denim button up dress. It also includes a belt. The sleeves are somewhat long, and it has a collar. It is fitted and pretty short. I like the material, the stars, and the style. This is the first dress I've worn, in this style, in years. I like the way it looks and I can myself wearing occasionally in the spring, but probabl ... y more likely in the fall, since the material is thick and the sleeves aren't short.    Purchase this Sexy Denim Star Print Quarter Sleeve Dress I really like this skater dress. I think that the lace is so pretty, it has an asymmet

#Circo Mini GPS Tracker

As a mother of two, I always like to know exactly where my kiddos are. At all times.  I've heard of people using GPS tracker apps on their kids' phones, but I don't plan on buying my children a phone anytime soon.  That's where this new product comes into play. Check out the  # circo  GPS tracker, which is great for parents who want to make sure their kids are in a safe place, pet owners who want to keep track of their fur babies, keep track of an elderly relative, your spouse, your keys..... it's small enough to fit into a bag, backpack, purse, pocket, or attach to your keychain.  There is also an SOS feature for emergencies! It fits in the palm of your hand. Just charge it and insert your SIM card (must purchase your own SIM card or use one y ou already have). Download the free app (instructions on the product box), and keep track of any of the above.  It also comes with a charging cord and small tool for removing SIM card and pressing res

Things My Grandma Told Me: Presents

My grandma was the type of person who didn't like to wait to open gifts. If you gave her a gift early, for instance, for Christmas, she refused to wait till the day of. She was eager, like a little kid, and would rip right through the wrapping paper.  Also, my grandma would always tell you right away if it was something she actually wanted or liked. Okay, well, she was usually a little easier on us kids, but... I remember making her something in school. It was so long ago. It was a card that I made in class.  She smiled and thanked me for it and I was so relieved that she liked it. The next day, I caught her throwing it in the trash! When I asked her about it, she told me, she no longer needed it, which was why she was tossing it.  It hurt my feelings a bit, but I didn't cry, and I told myself that next time I'd just have to get her something better. As I got older, I learned that for gifts, she sure loved fresh flowers, porcelain dolls, jewelry,..

Behind Closed Eyes- Abduction

This is actually from a while ago. I kept forgetting to post it, but here it is: Slept, had a nightmare of a woman with no eyes in sockets watching me. Creepy. So then, I woke up at 3 am, couldn’t sleep, so I put on chakra binaural beats. Could feel it working very well. Never felt my base chakra open like that. Helped soothe me dramatically until I fell asleep. I was in a barn with some people. There was a big field. I was drawn to it. I told one of the people to come with me. The sky had strange clouds. We were pulled up into the sky slowly. I could feel it all. I felt like I was awake and it was very real.  I was in a room with greys (aliens). I was kind of scared, but I think they calmed me. I was hovering and nude. They turned me over. It was kind of like a hospital set up. Big eyes, peach beige skin, very skinny fingers and nails. I think they poked me with  something. I can’t remember where. The grey was trying to comfort me. Spoke telepathically. I was told I’d

May Bookcase from #Bookcase.club

So, I really liked the books that were in the last box, especially the one by Francesca Lia Block. Here is what I received in this month's box: Shadow Falls After Dark: Reborn by C. C. Hunter Synopsis Enter Shadow Falls: After Dark  and meet a vampire named Della, who's about to discover what her own story is meant to be. . . . Della had the perfect life-the family, a boyfriend, and a bright future-until she was turned, and abandoned by everyone she loves. She takes refuge at Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with paranormal powers. It's where she and her best friends, Kylie and Miranda, heal their heartbreak with laughter, and where Della is training to be a paranormal investigator-and she refuses to be distracted. That means there's no time for romance with Steve, a gorgeous shapeshifter whose kisses melt her heart. When a new vampire named Chase shows up at camp, Della's world is thrown into even more chaos. Arrogant and annoyingly sexy,

Having Pretty Teeth Shouldn't Cost So Much #sterline

My husband and I are very good about our oral hygiene. We brush two or more times a day, depending on what we've eaten, we floss, and we use mouth wash. We both alternate between electric toothbrushes and plain, old fashioned, manual ones. Now, my husband, well, he paid quite a bit for his electric toothbrush ages ago. I didn't want to spend so much on a toothbrush, so I was happy to see this one from Sterline. It comes with a few replaceable heads, some soft and some regular. It doesn't ta ke up much space on the bathroom counter, as shown, and it's very easy to use. There are three different settings- slow, fast, and pulsating. It is seriously a really neat product. You can find it here. Disclaimer: I received this product in exchange for my unbiased review. #sterline #TheBetterBasics #productreview

Things My Grandma Told Me: School Presentation

I remember this one time we invited my grandmother to my school for a presentation by my class. We had our parents and grandparents in there to listen to us each tell a story, or something like that. Well, my grandma had never been to one, and really wanted to come. I was so excited because I absolutely loved her. So, everything was going smoothly, I got up there and did my thing, a few other students had their turns. This boy goes up to the podium. Then, my grandma blurts out something about the little boy eating too many tortillas! You see, my grandma loved to crack jokes, and yes, they were usually pretty funny, but they were often said at the wrong time.  A ton of people, including his family, started laughing and the poor kid's cheeks became so red and he laughed too, but he truly looked embarrassed. Hell, I felt embarrassed too, because I'm sure the joke was a bit hurtful, being that he was a chubby kid.  Then, she kept mumbling little jokes here and the

Showering Under Rainfall

One of my favorite times of the day is when I get to take my shower. If I'm lucky, maybe I can sneak in another one in the evening.  Come on, mamas, you know that you love this time as well, if you can fit it in during your busy day. I get up earlier than everyone each morning so that I can take a nice relaxing shower before my chaotic day with the children ensues.  I have tried a number of different showerheads to help transport me to an island or some other imaginary location. The one that I am currently using is huge. It's a big 'ol square and it can be installed directly onto overhead shower arm or on the end of an extension arm.  Details: -9 inch  -chrome face -121 rub clean jets for an ultimate spa experience -tools free installation -connects in minutes I love it! It provides such a nice amount of water, as I described in photo above.  You can purchase this showerhead  right here. My kids actually love it too. They cons

Behind Closed Eyes- My Friend's Wake

I've been eating a lot more raw vegan meals and I've noticed that my dreams are so much more lucid.  I can remember several a night. (We have several dreams a night, in case you weren't aware of this. A lot of people remember bits and pieces from each and think it's just one long dream, some people remember nothing at all) When I was a child I could remember most of the dreams I had at night and even how they would transition from one dream to the next. I've been having some random dreams and haven't had time to really log them in. I really need to try harder. I need to try and add them in here as soon as I wake up, or I'll forget most of the details. Anyway, tonight, was not a very pleasant dream. I had a dream that I was surrounded by a ton of people, headed to my best friend's wake. ( She died two years ago during this month...) It was a sort of loop. I would go to her wake, sit through it, approach her, leave, the tears would start flowin

Things My Grandma Told Me: Mexican Dresses and Ponytails

When my sister and I were younger, there was a period in which our mother was sick and had to be in the hospital for a while. My grandmother took care of us while she was in there. Now, we had several drawers, as well as a closet full of outfits to wear during those days, but for some reason, my grandma kept dressing us up in these little Mexican dresses and she didn't really do much to our hair, other than pull it straight up and add a rubber band. Our hair is extremely kinky spiral curly, so yeah it was a bit painful. We sported that look every single day until our mom was released from the hospital. It's actually kind of funny every time that I think about it. I also remember that during those days we mostly ate soft corn tortillas and beans. There may have been some avocado and homemade salsa involved, as I remember those were two things that were always in our kitchen. Fun times with Grandma...

Blocking Those Harsh UV Rays in The Car #sunshades

The amount of direct blazing sun that we face daily in San Antonio is no joke. Summer weather began weeks ago and we've only barely entered May. The sun really does a number on my family and I in the car.  I always make sure that I have some sort of window shades to block out most of it. I have a pair of black shades that I use in the front and I have these really cute ones in the back seat with my kids.  They are far some boring. I think they are super cute. I like the bright colors and especially that little giraffe. They are eye catching for your little baby in their car  seat back there.  You want to know how easy these are to attach to your car window? You pull them apart from one another and stick on your window. They cling on and stay on until you remove them. These are way better than those old school shades with the suction cups. As you can see, they might not cover the entire window, but they sure cover most of it. You can also use these shad

Behind Closed Eyes--The Hospital

I am notorious for having the most lucid dreams and nightmares. Always have. I dream in full blown color, always. I can also usually remember several dreams that I've had each night. Occasionally, when I've been under a lot of stress or very, very little sleep, I'll have night terrors and wake up having a panic attack or crying my head off. Those latter dreams are never fun. Obviously. Lately, I've noticed that I've been having a lot of dreams about being pregnant or giving birth. Why? Maybe I'm having some flashbacks of being in the hospital a few months ago? For those of you who don't already know-I didn't have to most easy pregnancy with my daughter. I was hospitalized twice for preterm labor. First at 30 weeks and then again at 33-34 weeks.  In this latest dream, or should I say nightmare that I only woke up from a few minutes ago, heart beating like I had been running, a little bit of panic setting in, and a slight feeling of nausea. I

Behind Closed Eyes Intro

Some of you guys are aware of my other blog, Behind Closed Eyes, but I thought I'd just export all of those posts over to this one.  For those of you who have never visited it before, it was simply a blog with some of my most interesting and intense dreams that I have had over the years, some from childhood, others from the present.  Some of them are really creepy, by the way... One will be up today and a new one will post up every week. Hope you enjoy, and spread the word if you enjoy reading them!

Shiny Leaf Dead Sea Mud Masks are Great #shinyleaf

Dead Sea facial products have been pretty popular for a while now, haven't they? Have you tried any yet? This particular mask that I"m going to show you guys can be used on multiple areas on the body, as well as on your hair. The best things about this mask is that it has organic ingredients, is free from parabens, and is cruelty-free. Oh yes, dream product for me.  You don't have to spread it on too thickly and it will still work just fine. There is an included spatula for mixing before you apply. I like that. With my others I always just used a plastic butter knife. Haha. My nightly routine consists of me removing all makeup and washing my face well. Then I apply this mask.  You can feel it working after a few minutes, as your skin begins to tighten. Remember, you can use it on multiple areas of the body. I'd like to try a bit of this stuff in a diy tummy wrap. (Will let you guys know if I do!) You leave it on for about 25-30 mins, and then rin

Zims USA Max Freeze Gel for Sore Muscles Giveaway Ends 5/13/17! #zimsUSA

I recently came back from a week long trip in Colorado. The kids, my husband, and I had a really nice time. The weather was amazing, even though there were two days of snow in April! It was the first time that my children and I had ever seen snow. So beautiful, oh my gosh.  We made sure to try and get outside and visit different areas every day. We went to the mountains a few times and did some climbing. I was carrying my toddler most of the time, so I ended up feeling quite a bit of soreness not only in my legs, but also in my back.  I had just so happened to receive this product that helped dramatically. It smells minty, and is so cool and soothing when applied to the skin. I was impressed by how well it worked.  It has organic ingredients, including arnica, aloe vera, vitamin E, and tea tree oil in it.  There are no parabens, sulfites, or coloring in it. My favorite thing, besides the fact that it does the job well, is that it is not tested on animals! You can

Things My Grandma Told Me: Green Eyes and Tortillas

I was watching my grandma roll out some tortillas one day, just sitting at the table, as she flattened out another circle with her rolling pin. She looked over at me and said, "Mija, no man will ever want to marry you if you don't know how to make tortillas." I remember that I laughed, and so did she, but then she looked at me again and said, "I'm serious. You really need to learn how to make them. I'll show you, don't worry." She also told me that I needed to find a nice man man with green eyes as a husband. Guess what? My husband sure does have green eyes that are to die for and I make tortillas several times a month. Ha. Right on, grandma. He loves my tortillas.
