About this Book
What do you do when hard or painful circumstances turn your world upside down,
resulting in a life you never expected? Andrew and Rachel Wilson grappled with this
question after both of their children were diagnosed with regressive autism.
Refreshingly honest, this book explores the highs and lows of raising children with
specials needs, reflecting on the broader question of how to cope with suffering of
all kinds. Sharing personal stories from their lives and encouragement rooted in the
truth of God’s Word, Andrew and Rachel highlight lessons they’ve learned related to
fighting for joy and thriving in the midst of trials—ultimately pointing readers to
Christ, the One who promises to make all things new.
My Thoughts
You know, sometimes I feel like books such as this one, fall into my hands because they were meant to. Everything happens for a reason...
I think it was just the thing that I needed to read. I'm not an overly religious person, but this book made a lot of sense to me.
These parents never expected to have a child with special needs, let alone two. Their journey has not always been easy, and probably never will be,but rather than feel sorry for themselves and give up,they have put their faith and their lives in someone else's hands. They wrote this book in hopes of spreading awareness of what their lives are like and I think to hopefully bring light to the lives of other parents of special needs children as well.
It is such a good read. It is written in stages and from each parent's point of view.
It has helped me to really look at my own life with my children and made me realize that I need to stop and appreciate every thing, no matter how small it may seem...I should be grateful for everything that I do have and not focus on what I don't.
The first year of my sons life was a very difficult road and then besides everything that was going on, my son was diagnosed with epilepsy. He had seizures off and on with no warning, and developed a slowing in his brain. There was several appointments and frustrations and tears for up to a couple of years ago. His seizures are finally gone and he is off his daily meds. He is doing great right now, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that at times I do stress that it will all return again.
I have a baby girl now, and I also worry that it might start to happen with her as well. She is around the age when his began.
She was a 34 weeker, (preemie), but was almost born around week 22. My pregnancy was rough and I was hospitalized more than once to have my labor delayed. With bedrest we were able to keep her in just a bit longer. Friends, family, and even strangers prayed for me. I prayed as well because why not? When she was still early , I had to remind myself that at least she was able to grow a bit more in my tummy. At least she came out healthy. At least we were both okay and alive.
She is still a tiny baby, but she is healthy and growing.
I am blessed and I am thankful.
This book is a wonderful read.
