I have ethnic hair. It's EXTREMELY curly, very thick, and yes, there is definitely a lot of it.
You've probably heard it all before---I hated my curls growing up. They were such a pain and I wanted straight hair instead. I finally mustered up the strength to straighten it on a regular basis in college. Not only had I already been bleaching and dying it over and over, but straightening it several times a week too. I fried my hair. So even when it was in it's curly state, it looked terrible.
Anyway, long story short--I have been going mostly natural for about a full year now, I think, and I really appreciate my full head of curls these days. My hair is finally growing since I take better care of it. I am still experimenting with various products for curly hair to keep them looking pretty.
I first heard about Number 4 Hair products on another curly-haired girl's blog. Her curls looked perfect! I was dying to try the products out and was finally given the opportunity to do so.
I was sent four products to try out on my hair.
All of these products are 100% vegan, gluten free, sulfate/sodium chloride free, and paraben free!
You know that brought a smile to my face!
Here's all about each product that I received, as well as what I thought about them.

Company's Product Description
All about big hair darling, big hair...Charges onto your hair shaft providing positive and negative tiny little explosions that repel each other, creating enhanced hair lift and a perplexed Texan decadence.
- Premeasured pump dispenser
- Full body, Color Protecting, Anti-Aging.
- For medium to fine texture – Adds lightweight moisture.
- Sulfate & Sodium Chloride Free.
- Highly concentrated formula. Desire more lather – add more water, not more product.
My Thoughts
I like the cute description on the bottle. I'm a Texas girl and yes, we do love our hair big! :)
I also like the way this particular shampoo smells. I'm very picky with shampoos. I've mentioned this in other posts before. Most shampoos dry my hair out and cause it to look limp and tangled. After using it a few times, I really did like that it was in fact different and did clean it without having negative effects on it. My hair felt fluffy and didn't look limp at all. It also did seem to add some extra oomph and volume to my curls. I would love to try the volumizing conditioner as well. Love the packaging and the very unique pump top bottle that it comes in.
L'eau de Mare Hydrating Shampoo ($34.00)
Company's Product Description
Moisturizes and color protects while replenishing splendour... An advanced delivery system takes beneficial botanical ingredients and creates tiny molecules from that material to infuse unique anti-aging, strengthening, color preserving and purifying “I can’t believe I fit in this dress” results.
- Premeasured pump dispenser
- Weightless moisturizing, Color Protecting, Anti-Aging.
- For normal to Dry hair – Won’t weigh hair down.
- Foaming lather
- Highly concentrated formula. Desire more lather – add more water not more product.
My Thoughts
This shampoo also came in nice packaging and a uniquely designed pump top bottle. It also smells good. This particular shampoo also left my hair feeling nice and fluffy and also very moisturized. I can only assume that the hydrating conditioner would probably just add to the nice results and I would love to try it as well.
I'm thrilled that both of the shampoos worked very well with my hair type. This is not an easy thing! Very nice products!
Texture Styling Creme ($32.00)
Company's Product Description
Achieve flexible, pliable, weightless control with light separation and sublime texture. Its anti-frizz condition enhancing formula duos as a styling aid and treatment.
- Create separation, movement and texture.
- Tames frizz and flyaways without stiffness.
- Can also be used to help blow dry hair straight and smooth.
- Use to define curls or expand flat-ironed tresses.
My Thoughts
I used this product on my hair both when wet and when dry and it honestly didn't seem to do much for my curls as far as the way they looked. They did feel smoother though. However, when I used it to texture my son's hair, which is short, thick and slightly wavy, it worked fine. It made his hair look really cute and held it in place without being too sticky or too hard. It also didn't leave any residue in his hair like gels and pomades usually do. I really like how well it works on his hair.
Fluro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil ($26.00)
Company's Product Description
Lightweight hair repair treatment serum illuminates hair with time defying shine. Repairs, conditions and restores shine.
- Repairs, conditions and restores shine
- Micro-fast blow dry time
- Anti-Static and Humidity Resistant
My Thoughts
This is by far my favorite product out of the four that I tried. My curls LOVE oil products. What I love the most about this product is that I only need to use a little bit. I rub it in the palms of my hands and apply to my damp hair from root to tip. It smells so good and it eliminates virtually all of the frizz. It gives my hair a slightly wet look but not overly done. It adds a lot of shine and since I have been using it regularly, it really has made my curls look a lot more conditioned. I love this product!
I am very pleased with Number 4 hair products. There are actually SEVERAL more products in the line that I am dying to try on my hair.
