This book is called The Impaler's Revenge (The Impaler Legacy #1) by Iona Visan.
I love vampire books, okay, I really do. However, many of the vampire stories that I have read are very similar, sappy, and predictable. This book, like the synopsis says, is definitely "a vampire saga like no other". Yes, there is some very light romance in the book, but it is far from sappy and predictable.
There is so much going on, so much action, in this book, although it is cut pretty short at the end. I will explain how so in a minute...
I read this book rather quickly since I am a fast reader, but I found myself going back a few times to re-read things because I seemed to be missing details. I could not seem to figure out what was going on at times or why certain things were occurring. Perhaps it's just me. There was a foreign language used which made some of the names in the book and a tiny number of phrases hard to read, but honestly, that didn't really matter to me. I know that there are people that would be bugged by this though.
I really do like the concept of the book! (I can see this making a very interesting movie, actually...) I do think that it would be a lot better if there was a back story or just more details in general so that the reader can understand exactly who every character is, their jobs, etc. I would love to know more about each of the main characters.
I did enjoy reading this book, because like I said before, it is not your typical vampire story. It has some really cool ideas going through it. Sadly, I feel like the end was a bit rushed and needed to be extended and a lot more detail added in. I DO want to read the next book though. I would love to know what is going to happen next with Max, Liana, and Jesse.

Synopsis
In a world crawling with vampires, Romania is the safest place left on earth. Thanks to the Little Council, there hasn't been a vampire on Romanian ground in over five centuries. But one day, Liana Cantacuzino, also a member of the Little Council and a descendant of one of the old noble families, is ordered to bring one in, covertly. Enter Maximilien Hess, a thousand years old vampire determined to ruin the existing order of things.
Suddenly, Liana finds herself forced to protect Hess, instead of having the pandurs kill him. With the help from her trustful friends, Rodica Ghica and Åžtefan Sturdza, and that of an innocent bystander, Dr. Jesse Carver, Liana has to find out what is going on and what the President is hiding from her. When all is revealed, Hess's secret changes everything.
The first novella in The Impaler Legacy series, a vampire saga like no other.

Do I recommend this book?
Yes, if you're into vampire books, then of course. If you're tired of reading the same old vampire/human/werewolf love triangle stories, then you should give this book a try. It is nothing like those books at all!
I give this book 4 stars out of 5!
